The Capital District Gay and Lesbian Community Council is a community organization that needs your help.

How do we provide the services and programs we do? Though our dedicated volunteers!

You may already be aware of the programs we offer although you may be unaware of the volunteers who offer their time, talent, and energy with their hearts, minds, and hands to keep the Center and its vital programs running.

Volunteering is a great way to serve your community!

You'll meet great people who share your interests and be an ESSENTIAL part of YOUR community at the same time.

Nothing takes place at the Center that does not require some level of volunteer energy and expertise. Board members offer their vision and fundraising leadership, peer support group facilitators offer insight and experience, staffers keep the Café open and provide hundreds of referrals for phone calls we receive every year, and every month several people work on ensuring our newsletter, CommUNITY is in the mail by the first of the month. Volunteers fuel the Center's engine by building community and family. Some come with specific knowledge, such as accountants, bankers, lawyers, engineers, plumbers, parents, event planners, activists, firemen, editors, photographers, and builders. Others come with patience, time, and the willingness to provide whatever support is necessary so long as it benefits the larger community. We - the Council - could not survive and could not serve the community without our volunteers.

We can't do any of what we do without each and every one of them.

The Council is GROWING and we need more people now, so please share your talents with your community, meet people, and make a difference to your community, all while HAVING FUN too!

Current Volunteer Needs

All people are encouraged to volunteer; no matter if it is 2 hours a month or 10 we need your help!

CDGLCC Volunteers
Each month the CDGLCC receives many inquiries regarding opportunities to volunteer. We are in the process of rethinking the way we work with our volunteers and we ask that you be patient with us. We would like to work with every volunteer that comes to us, but like every organization, there are always specific areas of need. We will always welcome general inquiries, but the listed volunteer needs will be opportunities that we will have an immediate need for.

Rainbow Café Volunteer Coordinator
The volunteer coordinator is a key position. This person works to recruit and retain volunteers for the CDGLCC's Rainbow Café. He/she is responsible for keeping a monthly inventory of supplies and working with the CDGLCC Staff to purchase new supplies as needed. He/she will be responsible for working with the CDGLCC staff to get the building open at 7 p.m. and staffing at least one night a week from 7-10 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity to begin a leadership role within the organization and to get to know the community. This position requires no less than 7 hours per week.

Rainbow Café Staff
The CDGLCC Rainbow Café is open six nights each week from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. Volunteers will be responsible for answering phones to provide information and referrals, staffing the counter at the Café to serve coffee, soda and light snacks, welcome visitors to the Community Center, and be social. Shifts are available from 7-10 p.m., Sunday through Friday. A minimum of three hours a month is required.

CommUNITY
The Council's monthly newsletter, CommUNITY is looking for writers. Dedicated individuals with an interest in writing and journalism are invited to join the team. Must have relevant experience.

Ticket Sales and Special Events
Every year the Council sponsors various events that cannot happen without our volunteers. If you have an interest in working on helping with a special event, we can use your help.
