The Capital District Gay and Lesbian Community Council has a long history of successfully incubating community groups in order to facilitate their growth. As affiliates, the community groups are able to utilize the CDGLCC's tax-exempt status as well as infrastructure as well as having a strong community partner working for a more diverse LGBT community.
Three Dollar Bill
Three Dollar Bill Productions was started in 1999 and aims to provide quality LGBT entertainment to the Capital Region and use the theater arts to help LGBT people reclaim their history. Since its inception Three Dollar Bill has produced four original musical revues, "...As A Three Dollar Bill," two one-man cabaret shows, "Romance In Hard Times" and "Songs of Peace and Justice," and readings of "Call Me When You Get Home," a new play by two Capital Region playwrights. "...As A Three Dollar Bill," now in its fourth year, presents the music of gay and lesbian composers in an annual musical revue that has become a Capital Region "must see." Three Dollar Bill Productions became an affiliate of the Capital District Gay and Lesbian Community Council in 2001 and uses its nonprofit status to help raise funds for LGBT causes throughout the region. The group has been a two-time recipient of funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, administered locally by the Albany-Schenectady League of Arts.
