Please join the Capital District Gay and Lesbian Community Council (CDGLCC) in raising money for local HIV/AIDS Service Organizations and as well as for the CDGLCC. We have set an ambitious goal this year to raise more money than ever before!  Please show your support by participating in the walk or being sponsored to raise money for the cause.

More than one million people are living with HIV/AIDS in the United States. This is a serious issue that deserves your attention and efforts. You will be making a difference in addressing the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the Capital Region and beyond.

There is a new and easy way to sign up electronically to participate in this event! Please visit www.firstgiving.com/cdglcc2010 and click the “I want to raise money too” link and select that you would like to raise money for this non profit.

Next click on the “get started” button and select AIDSWalk and 5K Run 2010 and create your account.

From there you are able to invite your friends and family to support this cause!

If you do not want to be sponsored we are also looking for energetic people to join the CDGLCC in walking together to take part in this important event!

As summer begins it’s slow fade into autumn and the nights become cooler, we begin to think about what types of events and activities will begin to fill our fall schedules. Here’s a highlight of some of the events coming up with the CDGLCC. Be sure to mark your calenders. And don’t forget to save the date of October 15, 2010 for the 2010 Annual Awards Gala – A Ruby Celebration. Be sure not to miss the biggest celebration in CDGLCC history!

This exciting evening of Award Winners, Great Raffles and Prizes, Dinner and Dancing late into the night will feature a keynote address from the Author of the International Best Selling novel WICKED, Gregory Maguire.

Keep an eye out for the official invitaions to go out at the end of August, at which time tickets will go on sale.

Hey Folks!

We need help this weekend getting local businesses signed up on our Senator Letter/Petition for Marriage Equality!  

By voting NO to marriage equality, our New York State Legislators have voted to send millions of dollars in wedding revenue to other states. Florists, caterers, bakers, dress-makers, jewelers, DJs, photographers, and more are LOSING business because of the Senate ruling on same-sex marriage. That just doesn’t make any SENSE. 

Marriage Equality New York & Albany Queer Rising are teaming up to plan MENY’s annual Wedding March (more info on the march below). 

This includes getting local businesses to sign on as partners for the march & sign our Senator Letter urging legislators to keep wedding business in our state!

This Saturday & Sunday Peter Mesh & I will be going from door-to-door at local businesses in Troy & Saratoga to get them signed on.  But we can’t do it alone!

We are working hard to ensure community input and accountability here at the CDGLCC. We are currently seeking 10 qualified applicants to join the Program Advisory Council which will review current programs and provide guidance of future direction and priorities of programs. This voluntary position requires a one year commitment as well as attendance at the quarterly meetings, and input and participation in one or more of the CDGLCC’s programs in some capacity.

If you would like to apply for the Program Advisory Council, please complete the application form found at http://www.cdglcc.org/programs-services.cfm. Please contact Program Director Curran Saile at csaile@cdglcc.org or 462-6138 with any questions. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, and be reviewed quarterly.

The Capital District Gay and Lesbian Community Council is hosting a volunteer appreciation party July 31st to honor all of our AMAZING superhero volunteers. Please help us celebrate them, and all of the hard work done for the LGBT community in the Capital District, in Thatcher Park at the Glen Doone Pavilion from 1-4PM. It is a beautiful space and we will have many prizes, awards, outdoor games and delicious food (catered by the Old Daley Inn). Bring your friends, kids and pets for a great day celebrating all the hard work of our AMAZING volunteers!
