Multi-platinum recording artist Taylor Dayne began singing professionally after graduating from high school in Baldwin, Nassau County, New York, singing in little-known rock bands such as Felony and Next, before beginning a solo career with Arista Records. Her first song to crack the top ten was the dance-pop hit "Tell It to My Heart" in 1987. The song was an instant smash worldwide, peaking in the top five of most major markets worldwide, "Tell It To My Heart" sold more than 75 million albums and singles, garnering Dayne three Grammy nominations along the way.
In the United States, she achieved three gold singles, with "Tell It to My Heart", "I'll Always Love You", and "Love Will Lead You Back". "I'll Always Love You", a change-of-pace ballad compared to Dayne's earlier releases, was her breakout hit on the Adult Contemporary charts in 1988 and paved the way for future uptempo dance tracks such as "Don't Rush Me" and "With Every Beat Of My Heart" to gain acceptance at AC radio (whereas Dayne's first two hits had not) until about a decade later.
As an actress, Dayne performed on Broadway in Elton John's Aida in 2001. She has had roles in independent films such as Fool's Paradise (1997), Stag (also in 1997) and Jesus the Driver (2004), as well as the Warren Beatty-produced 1994 remake of Love Affair. Dayne also had a recurring role on the Showtime series Rude Awakening and was featured in the VH1 series Remaking, which featured her close friend, Leah Remini.
On December 11, 2007, Dayne released the first single, "Beautiful", from her studio album Satisfied. The song is written by Taylor Dayne and Hitesh Ceon. "Beautiful" went to #1 on the Billboard Dance Charts. She also appeared on The Today Show, Chelsea Lately, Wake Up With Whoopi and VH1. The music video for the single and Satisfied album cover were shot by Tony Duran, who has also shot album covers for Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Lopez.
She released her fifth album in February 2008 to positive reviews - her first recording studio album for over eight years. The album includes both new material and recreations of some of her favorite contemporary songs. Taylor Dayne Taylor tours constantly and continues to write and record music and is currently working on remastering her Greatest Hits album.
It takes a very special artist indeed to go all the way to #1 position on the Billboard Charts with her very first record. Not only did SHANNON earn RIAA gold for both her Pop/R&B/Dance smash, "Let The Music Play," the album generated worldwide sales in excess of 8 million copies and she capped the year off in grand style with a Grammy nomination for "Best Female R&B Vocal Performance" catagory. "Let The Music Play" also generated the #1 dance single called, "Give Me Tonight," and yet another top five dance hit, "My Heart's Divided."
In 1985, SHANNON showcased her versatility on "Do You Wanna Get Away," whose title track was another #1 dance tune. It confirmed SHANNON's position as one of the great new voices of the 80s, and established her as the international star she is today. SHANNON's domination of the dance floor gave birth to a new phrase in music business jargon: the Shannon Sound, which has since been widely imitated, but never quite duplicated.
"As far as I can remember, I've always been singing, probably since I was about three years old," SHANNON recalls. "I used to sing all the time - at dinnertime, in the shower, while looking at TV - I mean anytime." At around the age of 12, SHANNON began to sing with neighborhood groups, and in the junior high school chorus.
By the time she reached high school, SHANNON was taking her music seriously, expanding her list of musical idols came to include such artists as Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington and Diana Ross. In college, SHANNON pursued a wide variety of musical styles and interests, where she studied voice, piano, music theory and history, and was the featured vocalist in the jazz ensemble. She also took classes in dance and acting because, as she states, "I wanted to be a well-rounded performer." She continues, "One of my professors used to always lecture me about having my voice really trained because he felt I was a singer.
Andrew Frierson, of the Metropolitan Opera, started working with SHANNON and he became "my main coach," training her in classical, jazz and Broadway approaches. Her other tutors were Dennis Moorman, former Sammy Davis Jr.'s pianist (and Melba Moore's brother), and pop specialist Bob Geraldi.
Shannon was highly featured when she "Guest Starred" on the NBC’s huge summer hit show called "Hit Me Baby, One More Time". Shannon is currently working on a new CD and say's "Honey I am ready to do it all over again, so get the party started".
